Over at MutantFrog they say the going rate for a Tokyo councillor is 17 million yen! Considering the average election has more winners than losers (here it's usually 40 candidates or less for 33 seats, and 2,000 votes gets you in) if I ever naturalise I will seriously investigate standing.
